Eating For Neurotransmitter Balance

Eat protein-rich foods alone and you will notice that you are more alert and respond more quickly to mental challenges. Try eating a high-protein meal with little fat and no carbohydrates; for example, eat a chicken breast without skin, or very lean, well-trimmed beef or a lean fish, such as flounder fillet, and no other food. See if you feel more alert and energetic in about an hour or so. Try this some evening and see if it is easier to get to sleep.

 

Eat carbohydrate-rich foods and you'll notice you are less stressed and anxious and more relaxed. You can focus better. In contrast to the protein meal, try a meal of only rice or pasta with tomato sauce, or beans or oatmeal. Within about an hour or so. see if you are more relaxed. Indeed, go a step further and do it in the evening and see if you fall asleep more easily.
