Men may run away because of wives who are never happy, never satisfied. They point to wives who nag and complain, wives who have affairs, wives who have changed. "She’s not the woman I married," is a common statement from runaway husbands. There are men who run away with other women and men who run away with other men. Some men in their middle years decide they are more "comfortable" with homosexual alliances and run away because they can't face wife and family.
Men run away during their "midlife crisis," a time when a man takes stock of his life and finds it not to his liking. But they soon find that there’s no perfect life and try to return home-where in many cases it is too late. A few men end up losing everything, as suicides, mental patients, or Skid Row bums.
Some men run away to escape alimony and child support payments. According to the Office of Child Support Enforcement, close to 3.3 million absent parents are associated with welfare families.
