Some 13 percent of children under eighteen live with a remarried parent and a stepparent. Half a million adults become stepparents each year in the United States. Most children in stepfamilies are members of two households. The fact that "blended" families come from diverse backgrounds accentuates the need for tolerance.
With the rising rate of divorce and remarriage, more adults and children are living in stepfamilies, trying to cope with unique adjustment problems and stresses.
