Depression is a medical condition with biological, psychological, and social causes. Symptoms include a persistent sad mood, loss of energy difficulty concentrating, feeling worthless, sleeping too much or having difficulty sleeping, and loss of interest in what you enjoy previously.
Some people thought they will be able to walk out from a depressed state or mood. But, The medical community had recognized this debilitating condition requires serious treatment.
Stress can trigger bouts of depression, especially those who genetically predisposed toward it. In fact, scientists had found that people with a certain type of gene in their brains are more apt to suffer from depression after a stressful event or trauma.
St. John's wort, Hypericum perforatum, is a yellow flowering plant containing chemical compounds that have been used for more than 2,000 years to treat a variety of conditions, most notably depression. In Germany, St. John’s Wort has been the medicine of choice for depression for years. St. John’s Wort prevents nerve cells in the brain from reabsorbing the neurotransmitter serotonin, which greatly affects mental state. It also play a role in the functioning of body's immune system.
Studies indicate that St. John's Wort is useful for treating mild to moderate depression. The British Medical Journal in 1996 published a review of twenty-three studies, which indicated that St. John's Wort was effective in treating depression without as many side effects as commonly prescribed antidepressants.
