Holiday And Travel Stress

A good holiday can do wonders towards mending the wear and tear of stress, recharging the batteries and helping to get everyday problems into perspective. Regular, well-chosen holidays are acknowledged to play an important role in stress-resistance. It is unwise to go too long without taking a holiday.

Yet, perhaps surprisingly, holidays can equally become stressful experiences in their own right, unless you are careful. This is mainly because holidays are all about change, which consistently tends to generate stress. Holidays represent a variety of changes: a change of scene, and a chance to experience at first hand a different way of life, customs and traditions, and often changes in food, language and money as well. All of these can be highly beneficial, exposing you to a whole range of stimulating new experiences. But they have their  stressful side too: unfamiliar surroundings can create feelings of disorientation and loss of control; problems with not understanding the language can be confusing and frustrating; different food may cause upsets and so on.

To avoid stress on holiday, you need to make sure that all the changes it involves add up to a valuable and refreshing, positive experience, not a stressful one.
