Choice Of Exercise

For maximum overall stress-reduction benefit, continuous exercise such as swimming, walking and cycling is frequently recommended rather than a vigorous stop-go activity like tennis, squash or sprinting.

Exercise which does not contain a competitive element is obviously less likely to generate stress of its own, and if it can be done in the open air, where its benefit combines with that of oxygen intake, this is ideal.

Walking is an excellent form of exercise for everyday purposes, increasing the oxygen flow, strengthening the heart, keeping blood pressure low and joints supple, and helping to work off weight. So,  try to build a walk into your daily program in some way or other - take a brisk stroll at lunchtime, perhaps, or make a point of getting off the bus a stop or two earlier on your way home.
