Getting Organized

A lot of potential stress around the time of the actual birth can be reduced by planning ahead as far as possible. If you have worked previously, it's always tempting to stay on in your job just a little too long, but it is much more sensible in the long run, for your own peace of mind as well as the baby's well-being, if you do not cut things too fine.

Give yourself plenty of time to get everything you need ready for the baby - particularly, of course, if it is a first baby. You may want to adapt and decorate a room in the house specially for nursery use - don't leave this too late. As there's always the possibility that the baby may come early, don't be taken by surprise, and have everything necessary for the arrival ready a month before.

Looks for a store that sells a layette containing everything required for looking after a new baby, down to the very smallest items, and this would take a lot of hassle out of shopping for the essentials. Mail order facilities are also invaluable. Make sure, too, that everything you will need for yourself in hospital is ready and packed well in advance, to avoid last-minute panics.
