Eat natural foods, and your potassium intake will take care of itself You require about 3,000 milligrams of potassium daily. If you eat natural foods with a good variety of vegetables. fruits, grains, and cereals, you needn’t worry Foods that are especially rich in potassium are bananas, avocados, artichokes. and fresh or frozen beans (not canned). You shouldn't use potassium supplements unless you are instructed to do so by a physician to compensate for the regular use of a prescription diuretic.
A good source of information on sodium and potassium is Bowes and Church's Food Values of Portions Commonly Used, by Jean A.T. Pennington, Ph.D., RD. My book The High Blood Pressure Relief Diet also contains data and information on foods and menu planning, as well as an extensive reading list.
