For everyone involved in the move,
the stressful element will not be removed until a complete
adjustment has been made to the new home, and there are a number of
ways in which you can make this easier for yourself in advance.
-
Get to know your
new neighborhood as well as you can before the move
itself. You will probably have familiarized yourself
with it while house-hunting - this is certainly
advisable - but once you know your house purchase is
definitely going ahead, visit the new urea as often as
you can before you actually move, to find out about
local shops, transport, facilities for children, leisure
facilities generally, and so on. If you can, find out
who your new neighbors will be, and perhaps even
introduce yourself in advance.
-
Plan your move
carefully, to make sure it goes as smoothly as possible.
You will want to get estimates for the actual cost of
the move, but remember that paying a bit more for a
reliable firm with a good name can pay dividends: you
will be able to explain any particular requirements you
may have to their experienced estimator, and will not
need to waste time and nervous energy on removal day
worrying whether the men will turn up.
-
On the day itself,
make sure everything is clearly labeled, showing which
room in the new house it belongs to, and establish a
good rapport with the removal men, who will usually
gladly drink as many cups of tea as they are offered.
