Caring for an elderly relative can create special stresses in terms of the demands it makes on the carer. Local social services are there to help, with meals on wheels and home helps, and the National Association of Carers offers invaluable supportive advice and counseling.
In addition, the hospice movement, whose work is receiving ever-increasing acknowledgment and encouragement, can do much to assist carers, as well as those for whom they care, during the final phase.
