Dietary sources of taurine include animal products such as eggs, meat, milk, and fish; 500-1,500 mg should suffice as a dosage for brain function. Taurine is more effective than GABA at crossing the blood-brain barrier (in your brain, capillaries and other cells can prevent absorption of certain substances by the brain, thereby creating a barrier against assimilation). Therefore, taurine taken in supplement form may be more effective than GABA.
Amino acids should be taken on an empty stomach, either in the morning or in between meals. Because some amino acids can have toxic effects in high daily doses (more than 6,000 mg), it is wise to proceed with caution and take amino acid supplements in moderation.
